Student: How does the mind work? Master: Every single person possesses a formless mind.  In our formless mind, we have a system or pattern in our mind.  It is us who create the system or pattern.  We always have our mind operating through the pattern in mind.   The formless mind supplies or gives you all the energy through the pattern.  When the pattern changes, the phenomena change.  Where is the pattern, there will phenomena corresponding to the pattern. It is because the pattern itself is a creation and phenomenon is also a creation.  The pattern makes you organize all the phenomena.  The pattern makes you put energy together. Fundamentally the mind is pure. All the pure energy comes from the formless mind. When we start to purify our mind, it means that we purify and fix the defect of the pattern in mind.  This is what we call purification.  After we purify the system or pattern, we will be able to have a new pattern.  When we have a new pattern, our mind is able to construct through a new pattern to manifest a new phenomenon.
